My father's stepmother lived down the lane from my childhood home in what seemed to be an enormous Edwardian home built by my contractor grandfather, long since deceased. In the formal dining room she kept an enormous glass container filled with rose petals and spice. Potpourri. She'd ask me if I had been "good", which I mostly was, then she'd lift the lid to give me a whiff of the lovely mixed scents. This rose would be just the kind that would be inside the glass "sniffing jar" as I called it.
These small paintings look great in a cluster of 3 or 4 but solo is lovely too.
