I have very happy memories of visiting my father who took up gardening and bread-making after a lifetime of administrative work. In late summer would take me out to the tomato patch and let me choose a few ripe ones, and then he'd slice his cooling home-made bread, the tomato and slather on the mayonnaise, before dashing them with salt and pepper. Nothing could taste better than freshly picked tomatoes on homemade bread. This tomato might just have been one that I would have chosen.
